Only found in the heart, the cardiac muscles are responsible for pumping blood through the body. The cardiac muscle tissue is an involuntary muscle, so the unconscious part of the brain controls it. The muscles contract rate is adjusted through hormones and signals from the brain that stimulate the cardiac muscle tissue to contract itself. The cells of the cardiac muscles stimulate each other to contract, and due to this, self-stimulation is considered to be auto-rhythmic or intrinsically controlled.
